The Mann government of Punjab has launched a major campaign to help the state recover after the recent floods. While the floodwaters have gone down in many areas, villages are still covered with silt, mud, and debris. The government has announced a plan to clean villages, provide medical services, and support farmers, aiming to restore normal life and prevent the spread of diseases.
The Mann government has announced that a grand cleaning campaign will run in more than 2,300 villages and wards. JCBs, tractor-trailers, and labor teams are being sent to every village. These teams will remove debris and silt, dispose of dead animals, and conduct fogging in every village to prevent the spread of diseases. A fund of ₹100 crore has been allocated for this work. Every village has already received ₹1 lakh, and additional funds will be provided if required. The government’s goal is to remove debris from villages by 24 September, complete repairs of public spaces by 15 October, and clean ponds by 22 October.
Health services are also being prioritized. Medical camps will be set up in 2,303 flood-affected villages. In the 596 villages that already have Aam Aadmi Clinics, these camps will operate there. In the remaining 1,707 villages, camps will be held in schools, dharamshalas, anganwadis, or panchayat buildings. Each camp will have doctors, medical staff, and medicines. In addition, 550 ambulances have been deployed to ensure immediate treatment for the affected population.
The government has also taken steps to protect livestock. According to reports, around 2.5 lakh animals have been affected in 713 villages. Veterinary teams have already reached these villages. Spoiled fodder is being removed, farmers are being provided potassium permanganate, and vaccination of all affected livestock will be completed by 30 September.
The biggest concern for farmers is selling their crops. This time, the Mann government has decided to start procurement early. Purchases in mandis will begin from 16 September. In mandis damaged by floods, rapid cleaning and repairs are underway so that all mandis are ready to buy crops from farmers by 19 September. The Mann government says this is not just a relief effort, but a commitment to rebuilding Punjab. The government has also appealed to the public to support this effort, including NGOs, youth clubs, and social organizations. Punjab has always fought crises together, and no matter how big the current challenge is, when the government stands with its people, every Punjabi heart says, “Yes, the Mann government is with us.
